Commodore 64 Dictionary

C64 Dictionary is a fully functional dictionary for the Commodore 64.
The package includes 19 D81 disk images containing an approximate 175,000 words and definitions.
To launch the program insert Disk 1 and type LOAD”*”,X,1 then type RUN once program is loaded.
Features of the program include being able to run any drive number. Subsequent disk swaps must be on the same drive the program is loaded from.
The files could be moved to a different storage device with larger capacity. The current release is configured for use with a 1581 drive,
The interface is designed to work with a joystick however it does include keyboard functions. Cursor Keys will move the pointer. SPACE is equivalent to FIRE. Pressing the letter on the home screen will launch the index for that letter. Menu functions are accessible using F Keys in order of appearance in menu. The Keys go in order of F1, F3, F5 etc in the same order of the keys on a real Commodore.
Disk Management makes an attempt to make determining the correct disk easy. For example if prompted to enter the Disk containing file B 108 You would insert disk Disk 3 B107-C97

JIFFY DOS.

Pretty good -- functionally, actually works great! Swapping between the disks, you can easily find thousands of words. There is no search interface, which would be ideal, but it's nonetheless east to look up the definition for any words you want. The biggest weakness here is that despite such a large word list, some of the definitions are lacking and downright nonsensical. A "psychic" is defined as an "Alt. of psychical" while a "dinosaur" is defined as an "Alt. of dinosaurian." In turn, a "dinosaurian" is "one of the dinosauria"; although that does not actually have a definition. With an updated word list this would be a super amazing app!
